Walrus Audio’s Fundamental Series meets the challenge of creating affordable pedals without compromising on build quality and functional versatility.
Founded in 2011 in Oklahoma City, Walrus Audio is a company specializing in the production of guitar and bass pedals. Their offerings include a wide variety of pedals ranging from traditional overdrive and distortions to reverbs, delays, and modulations. Walrus Audio products are known worldwide for their build quality, captivating design, and versatile functionality.
Walrus Audio has recently introduced the Fundamental Series, a range of pedals designed to combine tonal integrity and ease of use. The goal is to make it easy for beginners while still meeting the needs of professionals. The initial series includes 8 models with dimensions of 11.43 x 6.1 x 5.8 cm and a 9V DC 100mA power supply: Drive, Distortion, Fuzz, Tremolo, Chorus, Phaser, Delay, and Reverb. All products feature 3 sliders for sound adjustment and a three-way switch to change the pedal mode.
The Fundamental Chorus by Walrus Audio is a pedal that simulates a classic analog chorus, recreating the bucket brigade modulation. It features an elegant design with textured black finish, matte purple and white ink. It offers a wide range of sounds, from delicate effect to ’80s tri-chorus. The Light, Medium, and Heavy modes allow for customization of the modulation, while the Rate, Depth, and Mix controls enable easy sound management. A slide switch makes it easy to switch between different modes.
The Fundamental Distortion is a True Bypass pedal with an elegant design featuring a textured black finish with matte yellow and white ink and top-mounted jacks. It offers a wide range of sounds, from dark tones to cutting leads, thanks to the three clipping modes: Dark, Si, and LED. These modes provide different dynamic and tonal responses, allowing for sound customization. The pedal has simplified controls, with a Gain slider to adjust the gain, a Tone slider to manage the frequency response, and a Volume slider to set the output volume.
The Fundamental Drive is a True Bypass overdrive pedal with three modes: Smooth, Crunch, and Bright. These modes offer a wide range of sounds, from a clean and even overdrive to a bright and crystalline timbre. The pedal features simplified Gain, Tone, and Volume controls and is characterized by an elegant design with a textured black finish, matte red and white ink, and top-mounted jacks.
The Fundamental Fuzz is a True Bypass fuzz pedal with three modes: Gate, Classic, and Mid+, offering a wide range of sounds, from gated to compressed and full. With simplified Gain, Tone, and Volume controls, and a slide switch to change modes, the pedal features an elegant design with textured black finish, matte orange and white ink, and top-mounted jacks. It is ideal for combining with other effects to create customized sounds.
The Fundamental Phaser is a versatile digital pedal with three selectable algorithms: Light, Medium, and Heavy, offering light, smooth, and experimental modulation. With simplified Rate, Depth, and Feedback controls, the pedal features an elegant design with textured black finish, matte pink and white ink, and top-mounted jacks. It is ideal for adding varying degrees of modulation to the sound, from subtle tone variations to more intense and resonant phaser effects.
The Fundamental Delay is a sleek pedal with buffered bypass and top-mounted inputs and outputs, offering three delay algorithms: Digital, Analog, and Reverse. With simplified controls for Time, Feedback, and Mix, the pedal also includes a Tap Tempo and the ability to select time division. The Trails mode allows the repeats to fade out naturally, while disabling it results in a more abrupt decay. The design is characterized by a textured black chassis with matte green and white ink.
The Fundamental Tremolo is an optical tremolo pedal that offers a vibrant effect with three selectable waveforms: SINE, SQUARE, and RANDOM. With controls for Rate, Depth, and Volume, you can achieve sounds ranging from soft to glitchy and wild. The pedal features an elegant design with a textured black finish, matte orange and white ink, True Bypass, and top-mounted inputs and outputs.
The Fundamental Reverb is a digital reverb pedal with three selectable algorithms: Hall, Spring, and Plate, offering a wide range of ambient effects. The Decay, Mix, and Tone controls allow for easy customization. The default active trails mode can be deactivated via the stomp switch to determine how the reverb fades out. The pedal features top-mounted inputs and outputs, buffered bypass, and a textured black finish with teal and matte white ink.
Walrus Audio’s Fundamental Series represents a good option for musicians seeking linear-behaving pedals at an affordable price. You can try all the models at the FACE booth on May 20th and 21st, 2023, at the Padua Guitar Show.
