The Pilgrim Slimline by BMC Guitars, built by Greek luthier Leonidas Tsironis, joins the Hommage ’59 by BakeShop Guitars and the Twenty Eight by Rozawood in the selection of instruments chosen to represent Guitar Show Bologna 2026. The BMC model stands out for its contemporary reinterpretation of the single-cut language, developed through careful ergonomic research, an in-depth study of the instrument’s vibrational response, and a particular sensitivity toward dynamics and tonal expressiveness.

The origins of the Pilgrimlie directly in the guitar culture of the 1950s, a period that Leonidas Tsironis describes as the moment “where most of guitar creation took place as an innovation that formed the electric guitar as we know it today.” Rather than simply revisiting that visual language, however, the project began from a practical need: developing “a smaller and lighter instrument that would maintain the vintage single-cut look, but would also provide features that musicians would find interesting and useful.”
This direction led to a series of structural and ergonomic choices aimed at expanding the instrument’s versatility while preserving its familiar identity. The compound radius fretboard, the 24-fret configuration, the re-engineered body shape and the redesigned headstock were all introduced as part of an effort to create an instrument that “respects its heritage, but adds more to playability, feel and comfort.”
For Tsironis, achieving this balance depends on a broader understanding of how every construction element contributes to the instrument’s behavior. Material selection remains central, but never as an isolated factor. “All elements contribute to the result because they work together as a whole,” he explains, referring to the interaction between wood selection, bridge materials, neck construction, fretwork, pickups, glues and geometry.
Among these variables, Tsironis draws particular attention to an aspect that is often overlooked: the shape of the instrument itself. “Yes, the shape of the instrument has a direct impact on the way the instrument is going to sound.” In his view, vibration is influenced by every structural detail, with each component bringing its own “voice” into the equation. This is why the selection of woods begins from their compatibility with the geometry of the instrument and with the harmonic behavior of the notes themselves. “Selecting woods that ‘want to vibrate’ in same frequencies according to their shape” becomes the starting point of the process.
This construction philosophy also informs the way BMC Guitars approaches different musical contexts. Rather than designing instruments around abstract specifications, Tsironis describes the company’s work as “creating instruments having in mind the musical genre they are going to serve.” Different styles require different construction perspectives, and this is reflected in the diversity of the company’s models.
In the case of the Pilgrim, the emphasis is placed on dynamics, nuance and interaction with amplification. Tsironis describes it as an instrument intended for players who work carefully with the relationship between guitar controls and amplifier settings, searching for subtle expressive variations. “Pilgrim is meant to be played by musicians who dive into dialing that sweet spot combination of guitar volume, tone and amp settings to create sounds that speak to their audience in a very expressive way.”
The selection of the Pilgrim Slimline for the cover of the Guitar Show Bologna 2026 catalogue was received by BMC Guitars with genuine surprise. “We were really happy to be informed that Pilgrim has been selected as the Guitar Show cover for 2026,” says Tsironis. “It represents our work being recognized and liked.”
At the center of this work remains the ongoing relationship between builders and musicians, a dialogue that Tsironis considers fundamental to the evolution of the instrument itself. Looking back at guitar history, he observes that “the musician-builder relationship is always present,” describing guitar making as a process where artistic ideas and technical problem-solving constantly interact.
According to Tsironis, musicians generate the need and the emotional direction, while builders translate those ideas into functional solutions. “We translate their feelings and ideas into numbers, solve the equations, optimize the results and find what numbers deliver their idea in the best possible way.” The process becomes more direct because the people behind BMC Guitars and Perception Basses are musicians themselves, allowing them to better understand the language, expectations and sensitivities of the players they work with.
For BMC Guitars, evolution does not emerge from isolated experimentation, but from this continuous exchange between artistic expression and construction knowledge. “Evolution comes from working together,” Tsironis concludes. “We believe that.”
